Introducing Janie's Upholstery

*Janie is now a leading member of the Retro Den Upholstery Repair Department, as of 2019

We are proud to officially introduce our upholsterer, friend and mother of Ashley Palmer: Janie Schneider. Janie started her business, Janie's Upholstery, in the back room of our shop last fall. She not only redoes pieces from the Retro Den showroom floor, but also pieces from your home.

We wanted to share Janie's beautiful handy-work with you. She amazes us daily with gorgeous furniture transformations such as the curved-back tufted sofa she took from 1970s velvet green to classic linen gray. Go ahead, take a look. It's good. Really good.

/// Everyone loves a sofa who isn't afraid to show a little leg. ///

/// This striking vintage Mexican blanket had too many holes to be a blanket anymore, but enough stretches of perfection to be the new seat for this awesome chair and the matching footstool. ///

///This tiny chair is a lady and a champ. She wears a simple, yet strong pattern with true moxie. She'd like to thank Janie for giving her another shot at life. The footstool sporting the same herringbone pattern sends his thanks too./// ///There are two more of these cube chairs ready to be upholstered and dying to be someone's matching chair pair.///

/// A wonderful Retro Den customer became a loyal Janie client after picking out this Danish-style lounge chair on our floor and choosing a calm, cool gray as its change of clothes. ///

Ashley and I did the math. Quality vintage construction + custom upholstery = the clever person's way to have strong, well-made furniture at affordable prices. Buying vintage and reupholstering gets you a custom, like new piece with the bones of vintage craftsmanship. Janie, we love having you at our shop! Your work is lovely and our furniture thanks you for giving it fresh life.
