Vintage Shopping in Tulsa: Tulsa Thrift Stores

Up next in our series on our favorite places to shop vintage in Tulsa- thrift stores!

A chance to do good and shop vintage

Thrift stores are wonderful places to shop because, besides being cheap, most of them benefit charitable institutions. For instance, here in the Tulsa area, the HOW Foundation thrift store benefits those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, and the Animal Aid thrift store works to help abused and injured animals. So you are actually doing a good thing when you spend at these shops!

Seriously some of the best vintage deals in Tulsa

Beyond the charitable aspect, you're going to get killer deals at thrift stores (especially the ones on the dirty side–that's okay to say, right?). However, you're going to strike out a lot on your visits because thrift stores carry just about anything and everything (e.g., Christmas cookie tins from the 1990s, fake flowers, stuffed animals). It's worth visiting thrift stores often though as new inventory comes in frequently and there is nothing quite like seeing a beautiful vintage solid wood drafting table amongst Laz-E-Boy recliners and old crutches. It's quite the rush and we recommend you experience it.

Why are thrift stores cheap?

Basically, you have to work for it at thrift stores. The cheap pricing comes because items were donated to them, and because you have to sift through a lot to find the gold. Also because you do have to visit so often to get the best items.

Not all thrift stores are the same

Like most things in life, thrift stores can wildly range in terms of their organization and cleanliness. Some shops have their clothing organized by color and size where other ones just throw everything in together. If you aren't sure you can handle a thrift store, you may start with a Goodwill or Salvation Army first to ease into the experience. But trust us, it's wonderful.
