A picker recently brought us the Better Homes and Gardens Decoration Book. It's a binder full of colorful interior ideas and advice. Just for fun, our intern Hallie and Palmer picked out some trends from the 60s that are going strong today. It's pretty cool that trends come back, but we think the simplicity of mid-century design is something that blends well with a lot of styles.

Styling with Pattern and Color: Our Favorite Interior Power Clashes

One of our favorite games to play while styling the shop is, "Can we make this go together?" It's a fun game, really. To play, we pick two pieces (rugs, sofas, chairs, artwork...) that are super loud or crazily patterned and then try to build a scene around them using only things we have in the shop so that they "go together" in the end. It's a great challenge because we only have so many neutral colored rugs or solid sofas to work with, so often times we end up power clashing.

We spent last weekend up in Springfield, Missouri with Ashley Mayes of Bigger Than The Three of Us (We have a home tour of her space coming up Sunday!), and it really got us thinking about gallery walls since Ashley M. has been working on hers lately. We have also been collecting vintage landscapes for a jam-packed gallery wall in Ashley Daly's dining room.
