Our Favorite Ways to Display Air-Plants

Our Favorite Ways to Display Air-Plants

One of the best things about air-plants is their display versatility! That's right, we said their display versatility. As in, because these plants survive on air, water, and sunlight only and do not require soil, you don't have to put them in a pot! Whaaaat? It's mind-blowing, for sure.

Not requiring soil and a pot make air-plants way cool because you can get creative with how you display them in your home. Rocks, jars, driftwood! The possibilities are endless!

Styling with Pattern and Color: Our Favorite Interior Power Clashes

Styling with Pattern and Color: Our Favorite Interior Power Clashes

One of our favorite games to play while styling the shop is, "Can we make this go together?" It's a fun game, really. To play, we pick two pieces (rugs, sofas, chairs, artwork...) that are super loud or crazily patterned and then try to build a scene around them using only things we have in the shop so that they "go together" in the end. It's a great challenge because we only have so many neutral colored rugs or solid sofas to work with, so often times we end up power clashing.

Meet Local Maker Bianca Howell of Owl and Drum

Meet Local Maker Bianca Howell of Owl and Drum

Meet Tulsa Maker Bianca Howell of Owl and Drum. Owl and Drum is Tulsa's "one-stop shop" for modern fabrics, quilting and sewing supplies, sewing classes and gifts. When we were on 15th Street, Owl and Drum was across the street and to the east of our shop. I remember walking across the street to say hello and meet my neighbor businesses. We didn't know then, but that was the start of great friendships and business relationships. We love working with Bianca because she has an enviable knack for color and creativity. We carry her napkins, tea towels, modern quilts, and pillows in our shop. I, Ashley Daly, make tons and tons of baby clothes from the beautiful fabrics from Owl and Drum. We also host craft nights where the ladies of O&D share skills with us and customers. I always leave feeling inspired after spending time with Bianca. Read more about this awesome Tulsa maker.

Succulent Care Guide: High vs Low Light Succulents

Succulent Care Guide: High vs Low Light Succulents

Our succulent expert and dear friend Sara says succulents are the camels of the plant world–draught tolerant, wind tolerant, the toughest plants you'll find. Tough as nails on the outside, hearts of gold on the inside. Though these plants are as resilient as camels, proper treatment is still necessary.

I remember before meeting Sara I'd buy a cactus at some random store, plant it in soil (a big no no, read our planting guide here), place it in the middle of the room with minimal light (How could you, Ashley?), and water it whenever it looked sad (that is wrong too, check out our basic care tips here). So if you are treating your succulents like this, don't worry. I was once where you are. Just having a love of the plant and a motivation to learn is all it takes.
